What is SASE in Security+?

D3 ยท Architecture  ยท  CompTIA Security+ SY0-701
SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) is a cloud-delivered architecture that converges wide-area networking (WAN) and network security services โ€” including CASB, SWG, ZTNA, and FWaaS โ€” into a single, unified cloud service.

Core SASE components: SD-WAN, CASB, SWG (Secure Web Gateway), ZTNA (Zero Trust Network Access), FWaaS (Firewall as a Service).

Designed for: remote workers, branch offices, and cloud-first organizations where the traditional network perimeter is gone.
SASE is the modern replacement for the traditional hub-and-spoke VPN model. Instead of routing all traffic through HQ, SASE applies security at the cloud edge. SSE (Security Service Edge) is the security portion of SASE without the SD-WAN networking component.
