What is physical security in Security+?

D3 ยท Architecture  ยท  CompTIA Security+ SY0-701
Physical security encompasses the controls, processes, and countermeasures used to protect facilities, equipment, and personnel from physical threats โ€” theft, vandalism, natural disasters, and unauthorized physical access.

Physical security layers (defense in depth):
๐Ÿข Perimeter: fencing, bollards, security lighting, CCTV
๐Ÿšช Entry: badge readers, mantraps/airlocks, security guards
๐Ÿ’ป Internal: cable locks, server room access controls, clean desk policy
๐Ÿ“น Monitoring: CCTV, motion sensors, visitor logs
Physical security enables all other security โ€” if an attacker has physical access, most logical controls can be bypassed. Key exam concepts: mantrap (two-door entry system), tailgating/piggybacking (following someone through a secure door), clean desk policy (no sensitive info left out), and Faraday cage (blocks electromagnetic signals).
